Positive training

Every cue below follows positive reinforcement, the method recommended by most modern behaviorists. Short, daily sessions produce better results than long, sporadic ones.

  1. 1Hold a treat close to your dog's nose.
  2. 2Slowly move the treat up and back over their head.
  3. 3The natural body motion will lower their hips.
  4. 4The moment they sit, say 'sit' and offer the treat.
  5. 5Repeat 5–10 times per session with positive reinforcement.
